Musica Surfica Film Tour

Musical voyage

Lee-Ann Curren sings and shreds. She is the daughter of legendary surfer Tom Curren and has inherited his musical talents and shredability.

Musical Voyage documents Lee-Ann exploring the intersections of sound and surf. An intimate road trip, journeying from the Basque County to California, accompanied by narrative and jam sessions with Lee-Ann, her father Tom and brothers Pat and Frank Curren. Captured on 16mm film by longtime friend and director Patrick Trefz (Surfers’ Blood, Idiosyncrasies).

Self Discovery For Social Survival

Record label Mexican Summer and New York surf brand Pilgrim Surf + Supply have teamed up for a masterclass in sonic and visual vibrations with the release of Self Discovery for Social Survival.

8 musicians, 16 surfers and tucked-away surf breaks in Mexico, the Maldives and Iceland are on full display, as you are taken on a journey that showcases the seamless relationship between waves and sound.

"The idea was to send surfers and musicians off on these trips together" explains Director and Pilgrim founder Chris Gentile. "Get them out there amongst it - in the surf, in the afterglow of the surf, talking story at dinner, just all the great stuff that happens on a surf trip. The right after their trips, the musicians jump into the studio and compose based on their experiences. With their hair still wet, so to speak”.

Surfers include: Stephanie Gilmore, Creed McTaggart, Ryan Burch, Jamie Brisick, Richard Kenvin, Devon Howard, CJ Nelson, Karina Rozunko, Corey Colapinto, Ellis Ericson, Beau Foster, Ari Browne, Andrew Kidman, Kassia Meador, Lee-Ann Curren and Heidar Logi.

Soundtrack by: Allah-Las, Connan Mockasin, Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT, Peaking Lights, Dungen and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.
